This piece was inspired by the delicate Bauhinia leaves my friend brought back from the Kimberley in Western Australia. At first glance, they resembled butterflies, and that visual sparked the idea for this work. While I have many "favourite" flowers, I’m especially drawn to an orange palette, particularly when used as a field.
My neighbours have a wonderfully exotic garden, and I’m always welcome to forage from it. The caramel-toned flowers in this piece are from their Pink Wild Pear bush. These blooms had already fallen to the ground, their colours slightly faded, but I found them perfect for the palette I had in mind for this artwork.
A piece created with spring in mind, the season’s gentle reminder of beauty, renewal, and the uplifting sense of new life it brings to the soul.
